Attendees will gain growing awareness of services to meet the needs of consumers who are culturally deaf and meeting the needs of consumers who do not use sign language for communication and who have different psychosocial, and employment service needs. Some states have created comprehensive programs to include these populations, while others are struggling with staffing, training, and service delivery issues.

This presentation will outline:

1. Vocational Rehabilitation Services for Persons with Hearing Loss

2. Deaf Culture

3. Consumers with Hearing Loss and Members of Racial or Ethnic Minority Groups

4. Persons who are labeled as “Low Functioning” or “At Risk”

5. The Individual Plan of Employment (IPE)

6. Job Development and Placement

7. Advocating for Workplace Accommodations
